The pelvis and low back have increased demand during pregnancy as the uterus expands and grows with the baby. This can lead to ailments such as sciatica, low back pain, hip pain, knee pain & foot pain. Chiropractic care is a safe and effective treatment for pregnant moms. Dr. Maggie Robertson is certified in Webster Pregnancy Technique and a member of the ICPA (international chiropractic pediatric association). All three of our doctors have years of experience working with pregnant moms. Treatments during pregnancy may include: Webster Technique, chiropractic adjustments, rehabilitation exercises focused on pelvic stability and core, functional movement, nutritional support, foam rolling exercises, and soft tissue work (active release). After the baby is born, moms often find challenges with upper back and neck pain from holding the baby and nursing. Adding in new postures the body isn’t use to can lead to shoulder pain, nerve compression presenting as tingling into the arm and hand, and mid back stiffness. C section and diastasis recti (separation of the abdominal muscles) also create a slough of issues for new moms, including low back pain and hip pain. Common postpartum treatments include: chiropractic adjustments, rehabilitation exercises focused on pelvic stability and core, functional movement, nutritional support, foam rolling exercises, soft tissue work (active release), fascial release by instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM), cupping sore muscles and nerve gliding exercises.
